The issues raised by Hughes are concerned with African
Americans but it can be said that as problem experienced by other marginalized
ethnic groups. According to Hughes, the way they treat white people and black
people are different. White people cannot be cursed. The curse is said to
reflect on those who curse but this doesn’t applies to black people. When the
Americans are dead, they will be cremated well not like Africans (black
people). Africans are seen strangely in the American society. Democracy is
merely words in their society as they haven’t experienced it. As I knew, this
situation was experienced in India. The treatment between the ethnic group and
the others were different there. The ethnic groups were even not allowed into
temple those days. Even though, the situation has changed but there are still
certain issues remaining unsolved there as stated by Hughes.
