Questions.

1. Benefits of using speeches by famous figures in the classroom.

i)                   Giving students a natural and expressive speech (sounding text)experience that can be used as a reading strategy.
ii)                An important skill that helps students focus on pieces of information to increase comprehension.
iii)              Students will be able to communicate far more effectively
iv)               Students will be able to have a better grip on public speaking hence learning will be much comfortable for them.

2. Go to www.youtube.com and find the audio-visual on the speech. In not less than 50 words, state would the audio-visual be of any use in helping understand the speech better? State your reasons.

According to author Thomas Hoerr, Ph.D., "when teachers offer different pathways for students to learn ... more students find success in school.

Using audio-visual in the classroom is one of the way in achieving teaching and learning process. Rather than relying solely on speech through direct instruction, audio visual is affective. This is mainly because it gives the audience some clues through the expression of actors, voice, and background music and subtitles as well. A message is easier to be delivered once it is played with visual. Most importantly it promotes better understanding as it entertaining and authentic as well.


3. Who is Martin Luther King?
Martin Luther King Jr. was the most important voice of the American civil rights movement, which worked for equal rights for all. Because of his great work, in 1964 King received the Nobel Peace Prize. He was the youngest person ever to receive this high honour.

4. Based on the questions below, analyse the features of the given written speech:

a. What is the purpose of the speech?
-His speech is mainly about the discrimination and ill treatment went through by the black citizens. His speech was inspired by African-Americans. His speech brought awareness about their right to best education, health, social equality, fair treatment and their rights as well.

b. What is the tone of the speech?
- King has used persuasive tone and repetitive words or phrases (anaphora).

c. What interesting major feature(s) can you see from the speech?
-The interesting features in the speech are the repetition of words or anaphora. When something is repeated over it enhances their attention and it conveys the message explicitly too.

d. Any interesting facts that you can gather based on the background of the speech?
-The use of anaphora and key themes.

5. Suggest a while-reading activity that can be derived from this particular speech.
-Stop at the end of each section to review and check their predictions, restate the main idea and summarize the section.
